SGI InfiniteStorage 10000 Sets New Standard in Ultra-Dense Data Storage

As more customers face challenges due to expanding data storage demands, slow data back-ups, and sluggish retrieval speeds, Silicon Graphics (OTC: SGID) today unveiled a breakthrough mass storage sub-system that drives down the cost of rapidly accessing data stored on disk, while dramatically shrinking its footprint.
The SGI(R) InfiniteStorage 10000 fits up to 240TB of Serial ATA (SATA) disk capacity in a single rack consuming just five square feet of floor space, and up to 480TB behind a single pair of controllers. The SGI InfiniteStorage 10000 addresses the needs of users who demand massive amounts of online storage, more terabytes per square foot, and fast retrieval of archived data at a price per terabyte that is comparable to a tape library.

Pointwise Offers Gridgen v15.09 on SGI Prism Workstation

Pointwise announces the availability of their CFD meshing software, Gridgen Version 15.09, on the Silicon Graphics Prism Deskside workstation.

THE RECENT "strong rumour" about Japanese consortium (whatever that may mean) "buying" over the Itanium platform from Intel (whatever that may mean) sounds quite interesting - if not intriguing, as it is hot on the heels of the more official announcement recently about a 10 billion dollar Itanium investment fund by a group of vendors........
But why a Japanese consortium, that is, one in which there is no HP, the co-author of Itanium and the party who sacrificed the most for it, and SGI, the nearly bankrupt Itanium system technology leader?

SGI Opteron boxes to tip up soon

WE HAVE LONG heard rumors of SGI AMD-based products surfacing, but every time we did, the oft-mentioned, red-throated reliable sources told us that the project had been canceled.
It looks like said sources are wrong, according to a release by Interactive Supercomputing found on Linux Electrons, there is a version of the Star-P compiler coming out for SGI Opteron boxes.

SGI Reports Preliminary Third Quarter Financial Results

Silicon Graphics Agrees to Spin Off European Broadcast Operations to SGI Japan

As a continuation of its strategic agreement with SGI Japan, Silicon Graphics (OTC: SGID) announced today that it has reached a preliminary agreement to spin off Silicon Graphics Broadcast Europe which has served as a dedicated broadcast business unit in EMEA since 2004. The European broadcast group will become an independent SGI reseller through a 100-percent investment by SGI Japan Ltd.
In November 2001, SGI entered into a long-term exclusive distribution agreement with SGI Japan to supply SGI equipment, services and solutions in Japan. SGI Japan is jointly owned by SGI, NEC and NEC Soft. Under the agreement, Silicon Graphics Broadcast Europe will be named Silex Media and continue to provide SGI-based solutions to broadcast customers throughout Europe. Silex Media will become an asset of SGI Japan.
